FDF #003: The (Actual) Fit Daddy Fundamentals

fit daddy fundamentals getting started Jan 25, 2023

Welcome to the Fit Daddy Fundamentals Newsletter number four! This edition is appropriately named the Fit Daddy fundamentals. Getting lean, strong, and happy as a dad - and as a good dad - takes a different approach than what you might do as a 25 year old or a 20 year old.

It takes a different approach than what a lot of fitness gurus, coaches, trainers might teach you, or tell you you need to do.

Taking control of your health and fitness as a dad means taking into account all of the complexities of dad life.

It means taking into account all of the challenges, realities, and nuances of your life as a dad.

And a lot of what you see online or even at the gym is flashy. It's attractive. It's even inspiring. And there's nothing necessarily wrong with those things.

But the problem is, most of the time, for many of us, those things are not what we need.

We don't need some advanced, optimized workout for maximizing hypertrophy in some specific muscle.

We don't need to work out as though we are an Olympian in training. We don't need to do blindfolded, one footed, double barbell box jumps, right?

We do not need to do that, or anything close to that. What we need to do is return to the fundamentals.

And those fundamentals will make all the difference for you as you get in shape... for you. As you lean out... for you. As you build strength for... you. And as you protect YOUR happiness.

All of these are for you and completely selfish - in the best way possible. And all of these things are completely selfless... for your kids, for your family, for everyone around you.

And so I wanna introduce to you the Fit Daddy Fundamentals. These are the seven fundamental principles that you should implement in your life when you want to take control of your health and fitness.

And more importantly, these are the principles for when you want to take control of your health and fitness in a way that doesn't take you away from your kids. That accounts for the stress of your job, and your family, and parenting. That accounts for your schedule. That accounts for the factors in your life that will either allow you, or prevent you, from being the best, most healthy version of yourself.

So, without further ado, let me introduce you to the Fit Daddy Fundamentals:

  1. Move Daily

  2. Eat Clean

  3. Sleep Deep

  4. Play Hard

  5. Stretch Goals

  6. Lift Smart

  7. Breathe Right

Now, over the next seven weeks, we are going to go into detail on the importance of each of these fundamental principles. We'll identify some simple, specific actions you can take to implement these fundamental principles in your life as a dad.

So for this week, I want you to to think about which of the Fit Daddy Fundamentals you probably need to work on the most. Reflect on which of these are the most challenging for you right now. Think about how much better your life will be when you apply these principles to you life.

And remember, I'm here to support and help you learn and implement the Fundamentals.
